FS Nordmark
Lena’s research vessel in Book 1, captained by Kai Sörensen
The FS Nordmark is the research vessel that takes Lena Voss into the North Atlantic in Book 1: 78 meters long, a flat hull, white with a blue stripe, rust in the welds, and more antennas on the superstructure than a ship this size needs. A workhorse. The captain is Kai Sörensen, and there are sixteen people on board. The mission: verify measurement data on the Atlantic overturning circulation, four to six weeks, with Lena as chief scientist. The Nordmark casts off at 10 p.m. On board, there are customs of its own: on Sundays there’s cake, even in a storm.
