Ship’s doctor on the FS Nordmark, photographs fish

Thode is the ship’s doctor on the FS Nordmark, over sixty, and he photographs fish with a lens longer than his forearm. For every picture on the bulletin board in his cabin, he knows where and when it was taken and what the sea state was. For thirty years he has been able to tell from the way people walk how much they’ve slept, and he tells them. On board he is one of the few who know that Lena Voss and the captain know each other, because a ship’s doctor knows everything on board that could cause strain. Thode calls it stability and considers it his responsibility.
