FS Nordmark systems technician who knows the old OCEANUS probe

Mats Reimers is the systems technician aboard the FS Nordmark, the research vessel that takes Lena Voss into the North Atlantic. He is in his late sixties, lean, with white three-day stubble and hands that seem too big for his arms. He is one of the last two people who still know how to calibrate the old OCEANUS probe from 1998, and he calls it “the old lady.” He lays out his tools exactly parallel. He prints out documents “because I’m old.”
