De Filippo

Nursing home resident in Pozzuoli who believes it’s 1966

First appears in: Book 2 · GLUTZONEAppears in: 2

De Filippo lives in the nursing home in Pozzuoli. Matteo Rinaldi describes him to Lena Voss in a single sentence, without looking at the list: a man who believes it is 1966 and who stays calm as long as nobody corrects him. His son lives three streets away. In an emergency, Matteo says, the son will be at the door before the first bus arrives, and he won’t leave without his father. For Lena, De Filippo becomes a line on the list that demands more than a seat. On a night when he is pulled out of bed, someone would have to keep correcting him, or someone he knows would have to stay with him the whole time.
