Lena Voss · Book 2
GLUTZONE
Sometimes a decision is right. And still not innocent.
Beneath Naples, the ground is rising. Not suddenly, not unambiguously, but steadily enough that Lena Voss is called in to assess whether the region is prepared for an evacuation.
The Campi Flegrei don’t sit alone in an empty landscape. They lie beneath streets, homes, nursing homes, and harbors. The plans are clean, and the numbers look defensible. But every plan only works as long as all its assumptions hold at the same time.
At Lena’s side is Sofia Esposito, a volcanologist from Pozzuoli who knows the ground beneath the city better than any plan does, and who knows what an unnecessary evacuation can do to a city.
And then there’s a question in the room that nobody likes to answer: how early can you move people out of their homes when the disaster hasn’t been proven yet?
