The Form

An old form, a blacked-out name, an O

An old form from an inspection service, not written for Lena Voss. At the top, a stamp reading “Approved”; the signature line is empty. In the “Reported by” column, a name of five or six letters has been blacked out. Only an O is still legible. The assessment below is brief: not confirmed, no impact on approval. Eleven years earlier, in a power plant deep in an Alpine valley, someone heard something and wrote it down. The case was closed. Lena copies the form word for word into her red notebook.
