Meridian Risk Systems builds the sensors in a series that, according to Lena Voss, half the deep-sea moorings in the North Atlantic run on, and it supplies the data as well. At the ICRU in Hamburg, the Meridian feed has been running for years as an optional supplement to the government monitoring systems. The institute gets it free of charge, under a framework agreement that has been in place for six years. When Lena lays the feed next to the RAPID data one night, both show the same falling line. But the Meridian curve doesn’t jitter; the values are too even. The header of the dataset reads: “Dataset: processed. Smoothing: standard. Version 4.2.” What Lena had asked for was raw data.
