Wanda Imhof
Tilda’s mother, lives 300 meters below the dam
Wanda Imhof is the mother of shift supervisor Tilda Imhof. She lives up by the switchbacks, 300 meters below the dam. She is short and sturdy and carries a cane she doesn’t need. She looks like her daughter, 30 years older: the same broad forehead, the same short, strong hands, only her eyes are lighter, almost colorless. On Thursdays she bakes, and on Fridays she brings Edith at the inn a loaf of bread wrapped in a cloth. When Tilda gets home late from the plant, Wanda texts her that the bread is still in the oven.
